Teen released on $200,000 bail on attempted murder charge

Kaieteur News – A 19-year-old of Wauna Village, North West District, who allegedly stabbed a chainsaw operator twice to his chest, was last Thursday released on $200,000 bail after he was charged with attempted murder.
The defendant, Maxwell Solomon, made his first court appearance at the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Sunil Scarce, via zoom to answer to the charge.
The young man was not required to plead to the charge, which alleged that on March 13, he attempted to commit murder on 19-year-old, Cleveland Fredricks, of Wauna Village, Mabaruma. Magistrate Scarce granted Solomon bail and the matter was adjourned to May 20, 2021 for report.
It was reported that on the night of March 13, an injured Fredricks was found by his father at the side of his house with two stabs wounds to his chest. According to police reports, the young man’s father, John Fredricks, told investigators that his son left home earlier in the day with his cousin to buy a bicycle. The man explained that about 22:40 hrs. he was in the house, when he heard a knock on the outside wall of the house. Upon checking, he saw his son clad in a black long pants without his shirt with two gushing stab wounds to his chest.
Kaieteur News learnt that both Fredricks and Solomon had a misunderstanding, which led to Fredricks being stabbed. The young man was rushed to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor and was admitted in a stable condition. An investigation was since launched into the matter.
