Kaieteur News – Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon. Charles Ramson Jnr., was paid a courtesy call by the recently-elected Executive Committee of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB).
The Minister congratulated the members of the DCB and urged them to set aside all contentious issues and work diligently for the progress and development of cricket in Demerara. He discussed several key issues including school cricket, female cricket and the rehabilitation of cricket grounds within Demerara.
Minister Ramson updated the DCB Executive on the Unity Cup Cricket Competition, an initiative of President Irfan Ali, which will initially be played among teams on the East Coast of Demerara and subsequently throughout Demerara.
In response, President of the DCB, Mr. Bissoondyal Singh, thanked the Minister for accommodating the visit and also for his encouraging remarks. Mr. Singh lauded the Minister for his insightful advice and attributed this to the fact that the Minister is a former first-division cricketer.
Minister Ramson concluded the meeting by reminding the DCB members of their responsibilities as cricket administrators. He added that he would be keenly following the progress of the DCB and that he is willing to lend his support whenever necessary.
