Nov 05, 2020 Letters
Dear Editor,
Reggie Bhagwandin’s letter in KN’s Wednesday, November 4, 2020, entitled ‘Advertise the positions for CEO’s for State companies’ is worthy of much thought and quicker application. But, like many good ideas in Guyana, that excellent management idea is likely to die with tomorrow’s sunrise.
At this juncture of the country’s so-called economic circumstance without competent folks in the right places we could just as well kiss-off the potential benefits to all citizens. We are yet to realise and acknowledge that the country is woefully short on competent folks in all meaningful areas that matter to the country’s growth potential. And, of course, actively looking these folks in all the right places. Who is heading up this function?
We just keep fighting the last fight and re-running the last obstacle instead of planning for tomorrow. But that’s where incompetents and sycophants do their best work. Lacking the skills to lead or manage they foment confusion, uncertainty, misinformation. These cohorts of maelstrom are played out in the daily headlines.
Round and round the wheel of fortune has been going, year- in and year-out, since independence and the common man/woman on the street seems worse off now than in 1966. Just know that unless we choose to succeed as a nation, we automatically drift sideways and downwards.
Yours truly,
Phil Edwards
