BCB restarts Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh Coaching sessions under strict Covid-19 guidelines

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) one week ago recommenced its 2020 Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh Coaching programme after a stoppage of six months due to the corona virus pandemic. The Programme is being sponsored by Texas based Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh.

The sessions are being led by BCB Head Coach Winston Smith who holds a Level Three Coaching certificate. Smith visited the Port Mourant Ground one week ago where he conducted a two-hour batting clinic with 10 members of the Port Mourant Cricket Club while on Sunday he was at the Area ‘H’ Ground where another batting clinic was hosted for female players.
BCB President Hilbert Foster and Public Relations Officer Simon Naidu visited both venues during the sessions. The BCB President encouraged the players to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them by the board and Dr. Singh.
He advised the youths to put into practice, at home, what they would have learned at the sessions. The players were assured that the BCB would always put their welfare first and would continue to invest heavily in their development as it was determined to make sure that the legacy of Rohan Kanhai and Basil Butcher lives on.
Foster also cautioned the youths to stay away from crime, drugs and the evil ways of satan whilst speaking on the importance of education and staying in school. The BCB, he promised would assist them in any way possible to complete their educational pursuits.
Coach Smith used the session to explain the five principles of the batting stance, bat grip, set up while emphasis was also placed on physical fitness and running between the wickets. Naidu disclosed that at the completion of the batting clinics, the BCB would host a similar amount for bowlers across Berbice.
He noted that the sessions were held under the strict government Covid-19 guidelines of social distancing, regular cleaning of hands, wearing of face masks and a limited amount of players, among others.
Sessions will continue this Wednesday from 15:00hrs for members of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club while the Rose Hall Canje Ground will be the next venue on Saturday with Edinburgh on Sunday.
