Dear Editor,
In Guyana, the process started on March 2 to choose a leader and with all of our brilliance, we seem to lack the ability to come up with the results and have the entire world questioning our intelligence to find a solution. However, Guyanese do not give up easily and I prefer to join those who choose to pray, trust and believe God to bring us over this hurdle sooner than later, put this crisis behind us and move us ahead to reap from God’s abundant resources available for our benefit.
Each political party is claiming to embrace truth and with all that has happened some accept this with suspicion and others are encouraged, but I will like to make my humble contribution without getting into what is already very troubled, and muddy, waters.
I will not qualify myself to find a solution but seek your permission to use an example from the Bible. King David was an extraordinary leader and described as “a man after God’s own heart” 1Samuel 13:14. If only we can find someone in Guyana who could fit this description or someone who is willing to pay the price to upgrade his resume to qualify for this position, we will be able to say goodbye to all of our problems.
The word of God is saturated with guidance and direction, which lead to the best destination, but like King David, we have to embrace truth in thoughts, words and action. King David’s great hunger for righteousness and truth is clearly reflected in his prayer in Psalm 86:11. His desperate cry to God was “teach me your ways O Lord and I will walk in your truth. Give me an undivided heart that I may reverence your name”.
Again, I will like to submit that if our politicians will reach out for the righteous path and follow truth, it will be found because truth hides from no one but sometimes we hide from truth and that is the first step to a journey of great regrets.
Where truth is absent, sin is present. They were never intended to and cannot exist together. Truth has a foundation that cannot be shaken and has the ability to withstand any storm. Truth is like light. It exposes darkness and is intended to reward each person that embraces its value.
Fighting against truth can be equated to fighting against God but it is folly to engage in this fight hoping to get God’s approval and bring down His holy standard for personal gains. Of course, truth is not always easy to embrace because deceptive gains can blind the best of us but please heed my warning. Dishonesty never delivers as promised and the regrets will follow you for the rest of your life.
When the world renowned German-born physicist, Albert Einstein, said “the three great forces that rule the world: stupidity, fear and greed”, he was endorsing God’s word as recorded in Jeremiah 17: 9 and 10 which says “The heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” The Lord searches the heart and examines the mind to reward a man, according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.
I am very cautious to make any accusation but will prefer to send this statement from God’s word to all concerned with a question. When God searches your heart, as will happen to everyone, what will he discover and if He rewards you according to what is discovered what will be your reward be?
Let me close with four decisions to embrace truth: 1. Listen to the Truth; 2. Believe the Truth; 3. Tell the Truth, and 4. Live the Truth.
Harold Beharry
