Victor Lewis of Brighton Corentyne is 103 not out

Victor Lewis of Brighton Village, Corentyne, recently celebrated his 103 birthday and he is still going strong. The elderly gentleman reached the milestone last Tuesday.

Lewis was born on February 25, 1917 at Eversham Village, but grew up at Brighton, Corentyne, Berbice.
He attended the Eversham Scott School and is still a member of the Eversham Presbyterian Church. He was a lover of cricket in his youthful days.
After finishing school, Lewis started working as a carpenter. He continued that trade for over 80 years. During the time, he built numerous buildings including Technical Institutes in Region Six and his own home.
Lewis was in his late 20s when he met and got married to Monica Williams of Limlair Village, Corentyne, Berbice. Their union produced 12 children, 11 of whom are still alive. He currently has 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Lewis is thankful to God for his longevity. He is happy that God has spared his life and has kept him so long on earth. Lewis, who is still bubbly and cheerful, said he is thankful for life.
“As long as there is no sickness within the body, I am alright.”
Victor Lewis received best wishes from family and friends who gathered at his residence at Brighton to help celebrate the auspicious occasion and participate in the celebrations held in his honour.
He added, “I can’t say what kept me so long but is God work. The Almighty is in it. People say yuh do good, yuh will live long boy.”
According to the centenarian, he does not have a favourite meal. He eats anything that is provided to him.
“Long ago, old people use to say special meal, now yuh a call it favourite meal. Now yuh ah eat anything. As long yuh feel a little hungry, yuh eat anything. Foo foo was it in those days.”
