DEAR EDITOR,
Some say charity starts at home. When we look at the lack of team work between the two major parties during the negotiations with Exxon it is clear that they were divided to be conquered. Not only did the government give a very “charitable” or self caring contract to a very successful and rich company, but at the same time they are neglecting those on whose backs this nation was built. Our sugar workers do not ask for charity, but appreciation for their hard work. The wage increase should be at a minimum able to cover annual inflation. This would place the wage increase at 10% at a minimum over the last 4 years. Also if we were to consider the hardworking citizens in each productive sector an inflation pegged increase should be a standard annual adjustment. We must govern with our people’s best interest in mind. The future leaders of our country are the ones we nurture today and the example we set should uplift them to a higher moral standard that places future generations on a path that strengthens each future generation of our nation. Let’s build together a stronger, healthier, successful and good Guyana over the next 50 years.
Best regards,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
Chairman
