Sixty-seven-year-old Joyce Lall narrowly escaped death after she was brutally beaten by her son with a piece of wood on Friday evening.
Kaieteur News understands that the incident took place at the woman’s Lot 17 Best Village, West Coast Demerara home at around 20:00 hrs while the suspect, Amar Lall called ‘Snaga’ was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
The elderly woman lives with her daughter and grandchild, while the suspect and his wife reside in a small shack aback of the woman’s home.
According to neighbours, the young Lall is a habitual drinker. It was said that he and his wife would constantly abuse her and even threaten to take her life, on a regular basis.
On the night in question, the couple was said to have returned home from their usual drinking spree and immediately began verbally abusing the woman. Neighbours say this was a normal occurrence but the son took it a step further.
Kaieteur News was informed that the young man picked up a piece of wood and began brutally beating the defenseless woman as her daughter and granddaughter stood by unable to defend her from the hail of blows she received.
It was only after neighbours who heard her screams, came over and managed to pull her away from her son. She was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she was treated for a broken left arm and lacerations about her body.
In pictures, seen by Kaieteur News, the woman sported a large bruise on her leg, back and other parts of her body. The 26-year-old suspect escaped but was arrested yesterday and is assisting with investigations.
