GFF SMNT Head Coach Márcio Máximo committed to real and long term development

Since taking over the reigns as Head Coach of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Senior Men’s National Team (SMNT), Brazilian Márcio Máximo has been crafting a new path for the development of the sport.

He is on record stating that while winning is the way to go, qualifying for competitions also important and consistently so, development of young players is also of vital importance and this is the path he’s on which is also in line with the GFF’s long term development plan as crafted by Technical Director, Ian Greenwood.
Máximo’s coaching career kicked off at a national level in 1992 when he managed the Brazilian National Under-20 team followed by the Under-17 side (1992-1993). He has also coached the Qatar National Under-20s (1994), Cayman Islands (1998-2002), Tanzania (2006-2010) and a number of Professional clubs along the way as well.
Coach Márcio Máximo is not just recognised as an excellent strategist and up-to-date coach but he has a philosophy that is in keeping with the moving trends of the sport.
He is currently being commended for playing a huge role in the development of Tanzanian player and Captain Mbwana Samatta who has been signed by English Premier Club side Ashton Villa.

Samatta became the first Tanzanian to play in the English Premier League following his debut for Aston Villa against Bournemouth yesterday; the 27-year-old joined the Villans from Genk on a four-and-a-half-year deal worth £10 million.
Samatta also became the first Tanzanian to score a Premier League goal, the first man from the East African nation to make a scoring debut in the tournament with his header and Aston Villa’s first headed goal this season; Ashton Villa lost 2-1.
Máximo commented: “I am very excited for this Samatta who I brought into the Tanzania senior national team when he was just age 17 and he has never looked back. Like the nation of Tanzania, I am very proud of his continued rise and he has now opened the door for his fellow countrymen on one of the biggest stages of the sport in the world.”
Among some other young players who Máximo have help develop at various clubs and national teams are Ronaldo Fenômeno (Brazil National Team) and Robert Snodgrass from Scotland (a winger for Aston Villa on loan from Premier League club West Ham United).
