BCB Launches Lewison General Store U-15 tournament

“Since my election as President of the BCB in February 2018, the board has launched over sixty tournaments at the different levels and it is my aim to host another twenty-five in 2020. By the end of my second term in December, 2021, the BCB would have successfully completed a minimum of 120 tournaments as we seek to make sure that all of our cricketers have adequate opportunity to develop their skills.” Those were the words of Berbice Cricket Board President Hilbert Foster as he launched the Lewison General Store Under-15 tournament for 2020.

Foster disclosed that the BCB is currently pushing to complete the 2019 Mikes’s Pharmacy Under-15 tournament. Albion has reached that tournament’s finals and their opponents would be decided shortly.
The BCB hopes to host two under-15 tournaments in 2020 as part of an expanded youth development programme. The Lewison Store under-15 tournament would start on the 18th of January and a total of at least twenty teams would participate. The teams would be divided into three Zones with the top two from each zone qualifying for the playoff segments. The tournament would be fifty overs per side as part of the county’s preparation for the inter-county tournament. The cut off date of birth for players shall be the 1st of September 2005.
Foster warned clubs to make sure that they have the relevant documents to verify the date of birth of their players as clubs would be banned for playing over aged cricketers.
The tournament is expected to be closely contested with teams like Albion, Port Mourant, Blairmont, Tucber Park, Rose Hall Canje, Edinburgh, No 73, Achievers, Bush Lot United, Mt. Sinai expected to participate. Some of the players expected to dominate this year’s tournament are Matthew Pottaya, Rampertab Ramnauth, Salim Khan, Damion Cecil, Sanjay Algoo, Avishkar Persaud, Tuvraj Shaundeo and Kumar Deopersaud.
The BCB President also disclosed that his board would be hosting tournaments at the Under-13, Under-17, Under-19, Under-21 and Under-23 level. Trial matches would also be organised at the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 levels to make sure that the best possible Berbice team is selected to represent the county.
Foster expressed gratitude to the sponsors for coming on board and assured them that his board would work very hard to complete the tournament within a three months’ time frame. Berbice Cricket, he stated is attracting unmatched sponsorship as the business community has full confidence in its leadership.
Co-Owner of Lewison General Store, Neal Lewis, stated that his company delighted to be assisted with Berbice Cricket and that he had full confidence that the tournament would be well organised.
