The Guyana Committee of Services (GCOS) whose mandate is to support the performing arts and sportspersons, held their annual dinner and awards ceremony at the Beacon Café last Sunday to honour persons who have contributed towards sports not only for 2019 but throughout the years.
According to the Leslie Black, committee member of the GCOS, his organisation has been very busy throughout the year, rendering assistance to mainly sportspersons while also playing a helping hand in the organisation of events.
One of the GCOS’ main events for the year was their August vacation athletics camp that was held in all three counties of Guyana, concurrently, free of cost the student-athletes that participated.
Black noted that the GCOS is majorly dependent on their fund raising activities inclusive of their raffle that had a grand cash prize of GYD$1million and the backing of corporate sponsors.
The GCOS presented plaques and gold pendants with the Guyana Flag to some 25 persons who are listed here: Amanda Hermonstine, Arron Frazer, Julian Edmonds, Lorraine Adams, Aubrey Hutson, Alisha Fortune, Henry Chase, Joseph Ramkumar, Carlos Powell, Christopher Gaskin, Rolston Richmond, Thomas Bowman, Collie Mickle, Gladstone Hopkinson, Clive Atwell, Christopher Jones, Alike Morgan, Hon. Dr. George Norton, Lennox Cush, Harry Parmesar, KaieteurNews, Stabroek News, Maad 97.5 FM, Ramsay Ali and Eugene Noel.
