A man who brutalized his bed-ridden father and threatened to sodomise him has been jailed for 12 months on three charges.
Jaikshun Mohabir, 26, of Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice was accused of assaulting and using abusive language to his 54-year-old father, Seuran Mohabir, called “Kennard” and “Giant”.
The incidents occurred on September 23, and September 27, at their home at Lot 20 Betsy Ground East Canje, Berbice.
The younger Mohabir appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh in the Reliance Magistrate’s Court where he was found guilty on three charges.
The case for the prosecution was that the accused lived with his father. He would usually ill-treat and beat his father. The man reported that his son would usually take his NIS money and drink and smoke and he would be left without food for days.
His son would pull him off the bed, unto the floor and sometimes into the yard to a nearby dam.
On September 23, last, Mohabit’s son beat him and threatened to sodomise him. During the ill treatment neighbours noticed what was going on and called the police.
Jaikshun was arrested and charged. However after he was released he returned home on September 27 and again ill-treated his father. He also told the man he would kill him if he has to go to jail.
He then pulled is father out of the house and on to a dam.
The police were called again and the culprit was arrested and charged with assault and using abusive language. He was sentenced to four month in jail on each charge.
