Fruta conquerors maintain winning ways; Santos end first round on a high
Fruta Conquerors continue to be the team to beat by maintaining their winning ways and their undefeated record when the second-round of the GFF-Always Championship Cup 2019 commenced on Sunday last at the GFF National Training Centre, Providence, East Bank Demerara.

The Fruta Ladies mirrored their first round win over Lady Panthers with an identical 5-0 win, the only difference was that their first round encounter saw Conquerors scoring in the first minute, this time around; the opening goal came until the 17th minute.
Leading markswoman, Tiandi Smith followed up her first round double with a hat-trick this time around and she, it was who broke the deadlock. It was again all Conquerors with the Lady Panthers having a few encouraging moments but was not able to overcome the Conquerors hurdle.
It was Conquerors’ fifth win in as many matches and their goalkeeper, Deekola Douglas Chester also maintained a clean bill of health. Smith was again on target in the 25th and 43rd minutes. Shamya Daniels scored in the 22nd minute, while the other goal came from Abioce Heywood in the 29th minute.
Meanwhile, the first round of competition ended with new kids on the block, Santos Football Club trouncing Foxy Ladies, 4-1. Leading Santos’ charge to victory was veteran player Andrea Lashley with a hat-trick, Naiomi Williams scored the other for Santos. Netting Foxy Ladies consolation goal was Janiel Edmonson.
Second round play continued yesterday with Santos against Foxy Ladies.
