Sasha Shariff and Samirah Gobin tied for the top position in the Guyana Chess Federation’s (GCF) female tournament which was contested last weekend at the National Racquet Center on Woolford Avenue.

Five players registered wins in the two-round tournament and Sasha and Samirah defeated Surraiyah Gobin, Sherlita Campaign and Angel Rahim twice each, while defeating each other once.
Both players made strong claims for their right to represent Guyana in the Caribbean Female Chess Championship which will be held in Suriname, early December.
Surraiyah Gobin, Angel Rahim and Sherlita Campaign each ended on four points.
Sherlita defeated Angel in both games, Suraiyah defeated Sherlita in both Games and Angel defeated Suraiyah in both games.
Each player received two byes in the tournament due to the odd number of players.
