A family of five is now searching for alternative living arrangements after their home was allegedly set ablaze by someone known to them. The incident occurred on Friday around 11:30hrs at Tumatumari Village, Potaro River, (Potaro-Siparuni) Region Eight.
According to sources, the building was set ablaze by 46-year-old Desmond Derially, who had previously threatened to do so.
Based on reports, the owner of the home, 45-year-old Donette Doris, was imbibing with Derially, who happens to be a close friend when a heated argument erupted between them. It was at that time the suspect threatened once again to burn the victim’s house.
Fearful for her life, Doris decided to spend the night by one of her friends and it was around 07:00hrs the following day that she received the dreadful news that her house was burned to ashes.
Derially was subsequently arrested and is currently in police custody assisting with investigation.
