Campbelltown gets new $15M health centre

(Kaieteur News) – Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony recently commissioned a new $15 million health centre in Campbelltown Village, Region Eight.

According to the Health Ministry, the minister and his team visited Region Eight to commission several health facilities in the area.

Among the highlights of the visit was the official commissioning of the $15 million health centre, which is equipped with the necessary amenities to provide quality primary healthcare services to residents of Campbelltown and surrounding communities.

The Health Ministry said the facility forms part of its ongoing efforts to improve access to essential healthcare services, particularly for residents of hinterland and remote communities.

Following the ceremony, Minister Anthony visited the Mahdia Hospital, where he inspected several key investments aimed at enhancing the facility’s diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

While there, he commissioned the hospital’s Oxygen Generator Room, valued at approximately $13.985 million, which will strengthen the facility’s capacity to provide a reliable supply of medical oxygen for patients requiring respiratory and emergency care.

He also commissioned a new Siemens digital X-ray system at the hospital, valued at approximately $160 million. The ministry noted that the introduction of digital X-ray services represents a significant improvement in the hospital’s diagnostic capacity, allowing healthcare professionals to better assess and manage patients within the region.

As part of the visit, the minister commissioned the Mahdia Rehabilitation Department, valued at approximately $14 million. According to the ministry, the department will expand access to rehabilitation services for persons recovering from injuries, illnesses, and other conditions requiring rehabilitative care, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the region to access these essential services.

“These investments underscore the Government of Guyana’s commitment to modernising healthcare delivery across the country and ensuring that residents, regardless of their geographic location, have greater access to quality, reliable and comprehensive health services,” the ministry said.
