GFC monitoring system has been severely compromised

DEAR EDITOR,

Recently two prominent stakeholders in KN article dated 11th and 17th September voiced their concern and somewhat frustration regarding perceived corrupt activities within the monitoring division. I am convinced that this unit has gone rogue and is getting the backing of the powers be it at what levels of authority Board, Ministry, Commission, etc.
It is incomprehensible to think that this wanton or fathom operation is going on and the powers that be, are not aware or they are simply turning a blind eye, for fear of jeopardizing their personal position, so they take the easy route out, turn a blind eye and hope it sort itself out or they are simply one big family and friend scenario so why bell the cat.
There is a big shakedown happening. Those who want to play the game under the table get by but those who refuse to (grease the hand) are shakedown and experience nightmares to get business done.
I have been in this forestry business too long to know that these inactions on the part of the authorities will come to haunt them badly. The monitoring unit has lost its capacity and credibility to effectively monitor and police our nation’s forest. The unit has been severely compromised and it needs a total overhaul to make it right again. In a few months, we will be blacklisted from exporting to the overseas market as the system of legality will lose its credibility, EU FLEGT will not be achieved because we will fail the legality checks, illegal harvesting activities will increase and Norway will stop funding forest activities.
Stakeholders are once again appealing to HE President Granger and the Minister to investigate the massive underhand dealings with the monitoring unit of GFC and the inaction of a few to deal with it.
