DEAR EDITOR,

There has been much concern about the conditions associated with the March 2nd date for elections.
Why worry? The voters have already made up their minds and if they were to change their perspectives, regardless of recent events, then that portion of the electorate has been convinced by other factors. The campaign messages remain clear on both sides. There is added weight on one side of the argument due to the international commentary and positions taken. Those who agree will vote accordingly and those who don’t will continue to vote in the opposite direction.
The 50th anniversary celebration and the upcoming projects will most likely be the rallying cry for moving on. Going against the celebration will probably do more harm than good, and it’s an opportunity that either side can capitalize on if handled correctly, especially if both sides use this as an opportunity to showcase their previous successes and plans for the future.
As it pertains to the extension requested, I am not convinced that an extension will automatically make all actions legal during the period beyond the three months before the issuing of an extension by the National Assembly. The extension can be very specific and have an exception written into it that does not allow for the automatic authorization of non-authorized items pursued during the period beyond the 3 months before the granting of the extension. This issue the current and past AG will need to review, hopefully jointly, and may not require the use of the courts and result in any further delays. This may help clarify on how to move forward.
