Reading the papers online has its disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that you have to scroll through the contents to see the name of the writers at the bottom of the article in the letters column. Reading online is free so one cannot complain while 80 dollars is being saved. I am seriously considering the forfeiting of $620 – the cost of a week supply of KN – to avoid the anger, disillusion and trauma it causes me by accidentally reading articles by Dr. Hinds, L. Lewis, O. Dolphin, etc.
I had made a resolution to stop reading certain writers. On September 23, I was caught with a Dolphin piece, “The true and ultimate objective of the NCV”, in KN. The caption is suggestive of what every Guyanese understood – probably with the exception of Mr. Dolphin.
As sure as night follows day! The objective of any opposition calling for a NCV is to put an end to a presumed underperforming government through the conscience of the representatives of the people (parliamentarians), in our scenario, to activate article 106 of the Constitution – government resigning and fresh elections in 90 days – with the hope of acquiring power by winning those elections. This long acceptable logic suddenly produced an eureka moment with a diabolical methodology, totally off context of article 106, for Mr. Dolphin. Despite all the pleas of the opposition for the government to adhere to the Constitution – calling for elections – the constitutionally depicted end game of a NCM, which could see the government getting a fresh mandate from the electorate or losing to the opposition, after the passing of the NCM on December 21st and later validated by the CCJ on June 18. Dolphin now sees “the true and ultimate objective of the NCV” as a diabolical plot by the opposition to acquire power, “through blackmail, intimidation, coercion and force.” Obviously fishy from a fish!
The Constitution renders the legitimacy of the interim government to 90 days after the NCM. Having been extended because of litigation from March 21 to September 18 by the CCJ, Dolphin now views protest action and a full page ad in the media by the opposition, characterising the interim government as illegal – as offensive and intended to undermine and destroy the legitimacy and authority of the current, interim, government with a view of replacing it with something else. The general consensus is that the “legitimacy and authority” of the interim government goes out the door with the expiry of the CCJ consequential timeline of September 18th – even “big brothers” (ABE Countries) attested to that too. I am at a loss to contemplate what the “something else” could possibly be, which Dolphin perceive the opposition wants to replace the government with. Fishy one more!
Dolphin conclude his missive by stating, “During the past few months, several persons, all supporters of the “successful” NCV have advanced the idea of the PPP/C returning to government through creative mechanisms involving an indefinite postponement of elections in Guyana.” This is taking ludicrousness to the extreme! This statement could at best be described in the parlance of trying to “paste the Coalition faeces on the opposition’s butt”, through the tale of a fish.
I would be buying the papers from now on.
Yours respectfully,
Rudolph Singh
