GMR&SC International Drag C/ship set for August 25th

The best of the best in Guyana will be forced to defend home turf when the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) stages its International Drag Race event on August 25th at the South Dakota Circuit.

Competitors have marked the dates on their calendars for what is expected to be the largest event in the local quarter-mile set up. According to the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club, (GMR&SC) they have received interest from competitors in Trinidad and Tobago for the event.
“There are about five or six Trinidadian cars that have confirmed their interest in participating in our International Drag Race event. We are currently working with our Trinidadian counterparts to get these guys and their cars in here for the event,” GMR&SC President Rameez Mohamed confirmed.
“We are also trying to get other cars from other parts of the region once it is logistically and financially possible. This includes Suriname as well because we know there are some guys there who were expressing interest in our local events.”
While the club has not released its list of sponsors just yet, Mohamed confirmed that there are already companies calling to sign on to the event because of the sheer magnitude expected.
“We will announce the people that are making this event possible shortly. We are in talks with a lot of people who can assist us both logistically and financially for this event because of how large we expect it to be.”
The last local drag racing event was deemed a success especially considering the weather had plagued the previous day and also curtailed a few classes on race day. This time, the club is expecting more cooperation from the weather and even more cars, as Mohamed said that several competitors have been building to this event.
“Some of the guys opted to take their time, skip our local drag meet just over a month ago and build towards this event because they know the competition here will be stiff. I can definitely say we will see far more cars.”
