DEAR EDITOR,
I refer to your report of June 3 2019:
“Police response to crimes has improved– Police Commissioner”, and am offering some unsolicited advices, for when one is new in a job, some prior practices do mean something and can be used as guides.
Here goes…
With respect, Police Commissioner Leslie James you have opened yourself to public ridicule.
Please, please good sir, do not do this again. You look and sound silly.
Please goodly sir, let your PR officer handle such matters (and I do hope you do have a PR officer).
Many years ago, Royston King was the PR officer and he skillfully took care of many blaring matters. His defence, explanation and commentary were superb as he adroitly glossed over the matters at issue.
Right now, goodly sir, the crime wave is high and your referencing a 2.7 percent decline is in the realm of unacceptable, as everybody want the unrealistic situation of no crime at all. The fact is everybody want every crime to be handled expeditiously and such silly excuses of no available vehicle and no gas are the utter height of ridiculousness and completely unacceptable, but you dared to hold a press conference and to look askance as if this is unimportant.
No sir, you were not acting in a reasonable, sensible thoughtful manner, more so as you failed to use your PR officer.
Countries like the USA, Canada and the UK do not lightly issue travel warnings to their citizens and those travel warnings are not smiled at nor smirked at. They are taken seriously.
Plus this reported comment to wit “Commissioner James assured citizens and visitors to the country that the force is concerned about any occurrence of crime and will work to bring justice to all of those who might be affected”, sounds so abject that any sensible person would interpret it as you saying “hey buddy, yuh on yuh own!”
Please think deeply…
Carl Veecock
