What I will subsequently describe has been going on for a number of years, and it appears to be getting worse. I had previously made a complaint to a senior officer at Brickdam Police Station, a couple of years back, but it appears that my concerns have fallen on “deaf ears”. Several persons have complained of similar occurrences.
Here is what is taking place. When you go to Brickdam, you report to an officer on the ground floor, who sends a rank to escort you with your firearm to the registry, where the licence is issued.
Upon completion of the process, whereby the licence is delivered to you, the accompanying rank holds on to the firearm, and while escorting you downstairs, solicits $2,000 under the pretext of lunch or phone credit.
I suspect that others downstairs could be involved. If you have about 30 renewals a day, these guys are making a fortune on the side. This nonsense must stop!
