Regal Masters overcome Wellman Masters to take Mike’s Pharmacy softball title

Led by a fine all-round performance from Troy Kippins, Regal Masters defeated Wellman Masters to win the final of the Mike’s Pharmacy 15-over softball tournament which was contested on Sunday last.
Lloyd Ruplall’s rich run of form continued as he fashioned a fine unbeaten 68 to propel Wellman Masters to a commendable 156-4, taking first strike at Malteenoes Sports Club. Ruplall thumped five fours and four sixes and got support from Eon Lovell with 32 which contained one four and four sixes and Greg De Franca who struck five fours and one six in scoring 31. Mohendra Arjune claimed 2-46, Kippins 1-28 and Tyrone Sanasie 1-29. Kippins then blasted two fours and a similar number of sixes in a top score of 40 at the top of the order to lead Regal Masters chase. Rudolph Baker struck five sixes in scoring 32, while Eon Abel made 28 including three fours and one six and Arjune 18 not out as Regal Masters responded with 159-4 in 14 overs. Rawle Reid captured 3-18; Kippins was named man-of-the-match.

Regal Masters beat Fisherman Masters by 29 runs in their semi final encounter. Batting first, Regal Masters posted 192-5 with Eric Thomas scoring 101, while Baker and David Harper got 19 each. Puran Singh had 2-20 and Zameer Hassan 2-24. In reply, Fisherman Masters made 163-8. Ewie Sharma made 61, Jagdesh Persaud 24 and Unnis Yusuf 17; Arjune picked up 3-27 and Laurie Singh 2-27.
Wellman Masters defeated HS Masters by 47 runs in their matchup. Wellman Masters took first strike and scored 198-6. Lovell struck 56 not out, while De Franca made 46 and Latchman Kallicharran 29. H. Singh claimed 2-16 and M. Ifill 2-43. HS Masters responded with 151-9. J. Jairam led with 72, while Danny Mohanram got 26 as Reid grabbed a hat-trick in taking 3-21; Kallicharran had 2-19 and Wayne Jones 2-41. The tournament served as a warm up for Regal who will be defending the Masters and Open titles at the upcoming Florida Cup. (Zaheer Mohamed)
