Vice Captain Dylan Fields ended as the top shot when the Guyana National Rifle Association (GuyanaNRA) held its second Recorded Shoot on Sunday last at the Timehri Rifle Ranges, Yarrowcabra, Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Shot over three ranges, 300, 600 and 1000 yards, with a maximum Total Score of 105.21 to be attained; conditions were very scorching on the sun-drenched day with some unstable winds, which chartered the course of events that followed.
There were no possible scores (maximum) of 35.7 shot for the day. However, Fields was able to master the conditions better than his counterparts and emerged winner of the shoot with a score of 94.07.
He shot 31.2 at 300 yards and followed with 32.2 at 600 yards. He then separated himself from the other marksmen by recording 31.3 at 1000 yards, the only score in the 30’s at the range for the day.
Veteran shot, Ransford Goodluck won the 300 yards with a score of 32.4 and followed that up with a score of 31.1 at 600 yards before being battered by the winds at 1000 yards and was only able to muster a score of 28.0 for an Overall total of 91.05 which was good enough to land him the runner-up spot on the day.
Another veteran marksman, Lennox Braithwaite shot similar scores to Fields at the 300 and 600 yards ranges but the tie breaker at 1000 yards was by four points, with Braithwaite only mustering a score of 27.0 for an Overall total of 90.04 for the day which earned him 3rd place.
Peter Persaud, who stunned his rivals at the first Recorded Shoot, two weeks ago was this time outdone by the switching winds, totaling 89.2 with Retired Inspector Dane Blair shooting 86.5.
The shooters felt that they were all outdone by the switching winds which was hard to recognise as it changed from four minutes right wind to six minutes left wind at the 1000 yards. The national marksmen will be competing at the first Spoon Shoot this Sunday at the same venue and are hoping that better conditions would prevail.
