Kevin Smith made an appearance Friday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly and was granted bail after denying a charge accusing him of stealing a woman’s phone.
It was alleged that on March 6, last, at Regent Street, Georgetown, Smith stole from Jeanna Razak one Samsung J7 cell phone valued at $70,000.
The accused informed the court that he is 22 years of age and is a labourer by profession.
Police prosecutor Christopher Morris objected to bail being granted under the grounds of the seriousness of the offence, and if granted bail Smith may not return to court for his trail. He went on to say that the accused was previously charged for a similar offence.
However, the prosecutor asked that if bail is to be granted to Smith there should be reporting conditions attached to it.
Bail was granted in the sum of $40,000 and the defendant was instructed to report to the Brickdam Police Station Criminal Investigations Department every Monday. The matter was adjourned to March 29, 2019 when Smith is expected to make his next court appearance.
