I pen this letter to highlight a very annoying issue. For the past week or so there has been daily burning of debris at Le Repentir Cemetery by persons cleaning. This issue is an ongoing one, since every time, the exercise of cleaning this place usually results in debris being burnt daily until the exercise is completed.
Now this constant smoke and debris blowing as a result of these fires is affecting persons both near and far, both young and old. Health-wise it is causing discomfort with constant sneezing, running eyes and noses due to allergic reactions to the smoke. Further, homes are under constant threat from debris blowing into homes and onto clothes and other materials. There was a time when this same cemetery used to be cleaned and nothing like this was so prevalent. I can recall large waste disposal receptacles being filled with the grass and taken away, so why this now?
I am therefore calling on City Council and whoever else is responsible for the maintenance of this place to cease and desist from this disturbing trend. It’s affecting persons daily.
Thank you,
Disgruntled citizen
