DEAR EDITOR,
The new Mayor and the Councillors of the City of Georgetown have done one of the best things, to forfeit the grant made by the kind courtesy of the American Embassy of Georgetown, Guyana, through its former Ambassador, Mr. Perry Halloway.
The grant was to restore the historic Stabroek Market clock that sits on a peaked steel-structured tower frame and at the edge of the Demerara River, hovering over downtown Georgetown like a prayer. It is a meeting place, a synergy of subcultures, an inheritance passed from generation to stall-holding generation.
It was found that the cost was quite exorbitant.
We the citizens of Guyana will like to see a group of international organizations coming on board to build a new tower and clock for Guyana’s Stabroek Market.
