rpose. As the relentless dry season continues, however, a crisis may very well now loom. Based on reports reaching this publication, the water that was once safe for drinking, is now murky and regarded as unsafe.
Pomeroon, which is located just north of the Essequibo Coast, is home to Guyana’s largest coconut production and cash crops.

According to a number of residents, the dry spell has significantly evaporated a great volume of water from the river. They further claim that during high tide, the salted water from the Atlantic Ocean streams up the river.
Residents are therefore appealing to the authorities to act quickly in an effort to bring some relief.
For some residents, the running ‘black water’ of the Pomeroon is usually their only source of drinking water. With the water now salted and murky, it is totally unsafe for drinking. There are some persons who store water for consumption in black tanks. As the dry spell continues, they too are now complaining that something needs to be done urgently to bring them some sort of relief.
It was suggested that a water distribution system be urgently implemented so that safe drinking water can be available.
