Yesterday Stepheon Philips, of Phase II Belle West, Canal #2 Polder, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was remanded to prison on four charges of raping boys under the age of 16.
The 42-year-old man made an appearance before Magistrate Zamina Ally-Seepaul in the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
According to reports the man moved to the area about three months ago and lived alone. On multiple occasions the boys were seen at his place.
On Friday last, family members of one of the boys discovered he was missing and launched a search.
A group of angry villagers stormed to Philips’s home and burnt it to the ground. They then ripped down whatever remained. The boys were rescued and taken to be medically examined and signs of forced penetration were confirmed.
The accused was arrested and taken into custody where the charges were later made out against him.
Philips was remanded to prison until February 28, 2019 for his next court hearing. The matter has been transferred to the Wales Magistrate’s Court.
