Supenaam Stelling 70% complete ─ project wraps up March 2019

The rehabilitation of the Supenaam Stelling is expected to be completed by March 2019.
This was the date given to Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo during his visit to the Pomeroon-Supenaam Region on Friday.
Project Engineering of the Sea Defence Department within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Colin Giddings, said the project is “about 70 per cent complete”.
He said, “A lot of the work involved the steel sheet pile revetment which is about 50 per cent of the project.”
To date, over $123M has been identified for the project, of which $89M will be provided by the ministry and the remaining $34M by the administration undertaken.

The project is slated to have flood and erosion protection structures in critical sections and the implementation of infrastructural, architectural and landscaping enhancements through a contemporary spatial layout to improve the recreational experience.
It will see the construction of modernised vending units, Arrival and Departure facilities for speedboat passengers. Giddings explained that the boarding facilities will cater for elderly persons and for those living with disabilities.
The new stelling will have the capacity to moor a large number of boats. Prime Minister Nagamootoo addressing speedboat operators said the rehabilitation of the facilities will enhance the way they conduct business and encouraged them to cooperate with the authorities during the construction period.

Premie Dass, a former Essequibian who is back for a visit, congratulated the Prime Minister for the progress the Coalition Government has been making.
She told the Department of Public Information (DPI). “It’s amazing from when I left the country and came back; there has been a lot of infrastructural development.”
Once completed, the project will be managed jointly by the RDC and Good Hope-Pomona NDC. (DPI)
