The Fire Department in Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast is still investigating the source of a fire, which destroyed a section of the prominent A&S complex, at Charity yesterday morning.
Based on information sourced, the five-storey building is owned by prominent businessman, Alfro Alphonso. This publication understands the ground floor of the
building is been used as a supermarket, while the fifth floor houses the popular 704 Sky Bar.
According to reports, the fire started on the third floor of the building shortly after midnight yesterday. The third floor of the modern shopping complex houses electrical appliances and other household items. This publication understands that an alarm was raised by a security guard, who was stationed at the location at the time of the fire.
The security guard said that she smelled burning wires, and upon investigating, she realized that the third floor of the building was on fire.
After a prompt response by the Fire Department, the fire was brought under control, preventing further damage to both the exterior and other floors of the building.
When contacted yesterday afternoon, the Anna Regina Fire Department indicated that investigations are still ongoing to determine the source of the fire.
