An 18-year-old man found himself before the court for the second time in one year, this time facing a charge of robbery with violence.
Chris Pollard, of 46 Durban Street, Georgetown at the time was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. Pollard entered a not guilty plea in answer.
The charge alleged that on January 11, 2019 at Croal Street, Georgetown, he robbed Raheez Mohamed of one cell phone valued at $16,000 and $500 in cash. He also used personal violence on the said Raheez Mohammed.
According to police prosecutor Sanj Singh, on the night in question, Mohamed was walking along Croal Street when he was confronted by Pollard. The accused cuffed him to the face and demanded that Mohamed hand over his money and cell phone.
After receiving the items, Pollard ran away and the victim raised an alarm. Public-spirited persons quickly apprehended the defendant and turned him over to the police.
Prosecutor Sanj Singh strongly objected to bail being granted to Pollard on the ground that he was positively identified during an identification parade.
However, Senior Magistrate Leron Daly granted bail to Pollard in the sum of $40,000 under the condition that he report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Brickdam Police Station every Monday until the completion of the investigation.
Pollard was instructed to return to court on February 6, next for his next court date.
In February 2018, Pollard was charged and appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman for taking his father’s firearm and 10 matching rounds. He allegedly admitted to the police that he took the articles and sold them. He was remanded to prison for that charge.
