Six weeks later, I am still to have surgery to my broken leg

Dear Editor,
Having been involved in a motorcycle accident on 28th of November 2018, it was evident that my right leg was broken. I was taken to the Georgetown hospital. Immediately a blood sample was taken and I was sent for an x-ray. When the result came back, the doctor informed me that she would be placing my foot in a cast and I would be sent home. After a trip to the orthopedic department where my leg was placed in plaster of paris, it was back to the x-ray department. After the second x-ray was completed, I asked the technician if everything was okay. He said yes, and I went back to the doctor who said I was required to attend the orthopedic clinic on 12th of December. On the day of the clinic, I almost had a heart attack when the doctor showed me the result of the x-ray that was done after my leg was placed in the cast. He then said to me, Sir I cannot leave your foot like this, you would have to do a surgery to fix it. When he saw the expression on my face, he then asked if I hadn’t been informed about this.
I was sent to another doctor to get a date for the surgery.
After checking the schedule log, he said the 9th of January is the next available date.
That I can understand but then the doctor said the hospital requires that they leave openings in case of emergency.
Maybe my wife saw the expression on my face and knowing that I was about to explode, she came over to me and continue to say repeatedly, don’t worry we’re going to get through this together. After a while, I said to him doc on the 28th of November when I came to the hospital with my leg dangling, wasn’t that an emergency? He never responded. I requested a transfer to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. At that hospital, the doctor explained that because I didn’t visit the hospital within the first 48 hours of the accident, I can no longer be considered an emergency so I would have to join the waiting list. It’s been almost six weeks since the accident, my foot is healing in a crooked position. I’m still to have the surgery done all because of a doctor at the Accident and Emergency Department of the Georgetown Hospital who failed to inform me that I needed surgery. May God help us.
