Farmer charged with murder of Brazilian

Five days after a Brazilian was found on an open track in the savannah at Moca Moca Village, Central Rupununi, with stab wounds about his body, a farmer was yesterday charged and remanded to prison for the offence.
Thirty-seven-year-old Darrel Williams, a farmer of Moca Moca Village, Central Rupununi, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on December 25, last, at Moca Moca Village, Central Rupununi, he murdered Elvis Aulicio.
He appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh told the court that Williams and Aulicio were known to each other since they worked together on a farm.

The Prosecutor told the court that on the day in question, Aulicio and Williams along with other friends were at a birthday celebration consuming alcohol when the two got into a heated argument.
The court heard that Williams accused Aulicio of stealing his haversack which contained valuables.
Aulicio then left the birthday celebration but was followed by an irate Williams.
It was while the two men were on a track in the open savannah at Moca Moca Village, Central Rupununi, the men began arguing again and Williams pulled out a knife from his pocket and allegedly stabbed him several times about his neck and upper body.
The body of 44-year-old Aulicio, a farmer, of Bon Fin, Brazil was left on the trail. Miners who were passing discovered him and took him to the Lethem Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The matter was then reported, and an investigation was carried out.
Williams was arrested and charged for the capital offence.
The Chief Magistrate remanded Williams to prison and instructed him to make his next court appearance on January 2019 when he will appear in the Lethem Magistrates’ Courts.
