Dear Editor,
As a supporter of the current government it is my duty to put the “Charrandass Persaud Affair” into perspective and not dwell on it and suck the oxygen out of what should be a quick study and actions to counter his “betrayal”.
First up Mr. Persaud’s name should not be given any recognition but be referred to as “a certain person” going forward because his ego needs his name being mentioned as a hero to sugar workers from his village bla bla bla.
Don’t be fooled, this man has a huge ego and ever since he did not get a “big wuk” like his friend the “doctor” he has been ruminating on a chance to stick it to his party, the AFC!
Ironically, the government should be grateful to Mr. Persaud for bringing it to its senses with this vicious low, body blow and rear end kick because that is what it is frankly speaking! However, the net effect of this “betrayal” should be the galvanizing of the government supporters to turn up in their numbers on elections day since they still won at the last elections even though thousands of their supporters stayed away the last time. This time, though, too much is at stake for them to stay home!
This “certain person” has made claims of his vote being a conscience vote (hogwash in my opinion) but his choice, he will have to live with for the rest of his life especially if and when it backfires.
A word of caution to the government. When many supporters of this government offer advice and solutions they shun this advice and proceed merrily along to their down fall. I hope they are listening this time because if they knew it all they would not have been in this predicament today!
Therefore, I would like the government to IMMEDIATELY move on from “Charrangate” and make changes and choices IMMEDIATELY to fix this situation since there are only 89 days left. Those of us with some political knowledge and common sense know that people’s minds can change in a single day when it comes to politics so 89 days is a long time and enough time to make some simple but effective changes!
Myself and many others believe that the PPP can still be defeated at national elections. They have recognized this and want to strike premeditatively so as to bolster their sordid track record by appeasing other ethnic sections of the population thus we will see an afro Guyanese (puppet) be their prime ministerial candidate.
So this is my layman’s advice about what the current government needs to do.
1. The public relations unit of the government should be fired or reconstituted to be more aggressive and start highlighting and rehashing the sordid deeds of the PPP while in office – the list is endless. At the same time publicise the government’s successes and plans.
2. Move on right away from the “Charrandassgate Affair” do not dwell on this it is done and dusted
3. Recruit a world class elections strategist to advise them on everything from social media to boots on the ground
4. Have Mr. Granger step down (this will be controversial but necessary due to his medical condition) ASAP – you don’t want a sick or half healthy presidential candidate
5. Ronald Bulkan should be named the acting president and he should be APNU’s presidential candidate.
6. Rework the Herdmansdton Accord with the AFC getting a bit more power and some of the things they asked for, for a while now
7. Start recruiting (and paying) campaign people on the ground to mobilize supporters in every region
8. Get party supporters registered in every region
9. Offer a public apology to stalwarts (I will start with David Hinds, Lincoln Lewis, Mark Benschop, Glen Lall) who were in the fight to remove the PPP and who you shunned – let them know they are valued now more than ever and you will reward them – there is no shame in that – it’s called politics!
10. Reconcile your differences with opinion shapers like Mr. Freddie Kissoon – a phone call or personal visit would not be a shame but a first step in reconciliation – the ombudsman has ruled in his favour – expedite the payment of what is owed this man
11. Since there are more poor people in Guyana than the rich people then simple Math would teach you that the votes of the poor are what will matter in the end so make a big announcement of what our poor and vulnerable will receive and be seen with them
12. FUND raising baby every dollar will count to getting your message out
Thank You
Clyde Pestano
