Could Malika Hale and Alvin Butcher have used a single weapon to inflict a total of 30 stab wounds on each other?
It’s a question that has baffled detectives ever since the victims were found dead in the bedroom of their Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden home last Tuesday.
The initial verdict appeared to be that Hale, 34, and Butcher, 48, had somehow inflicted the wounds on each other during an argument.
There were reports that Hale was still holding a pair of scissors, while a knife was on the floor.
But police appear to be having second thoughts and say that the investigation remains open.
According to a police official, the bodies of each victim bore some 15 stab wounds.
A postmortem reportedly revealed that the wounds on the victims were inflicted with a pair of scissors, which investigators found at the scene.
Hale reportedly had multiple incised wounds near the neck, heart and lungs. Butcher’s body bore similar wounds, with four of them perforating the neck, heart and lungs.
“It is a very strange case,” a source close to the investigation admitted. “We are still investigating.”
According to an initial police report, at around 20:00hrs last week Monday, the couple was engaged in a heated argument in respect of a pending criminal charge against Butcher, who was charged with wounding committed of the eldest of their four children, last August.
The couple and their four children later retired to bed in their respective rooms.
At around 08:00 hrs on Tuesday, the couple’s eldest child found them dead and with multiple wounds in their bed.
