The recent spotlight on Volda Lawrence’s foot in the mouth speeches were either Freudian slips or a sign of an immature politician. I am of the opinion that the minister is an immature politician; moreover, one that lacks the traditional traits of a PNCR chairman.
I have come to the conclusion that she is trying too hard to exhibit the kind of demagoguery that seems to have made a recent come back at the PNC. For this reason, she is having growing pains in becoming a true Guyanese “politician” , one who is always party centric as opposed to what her conscience wants her to be, a leader of the people.
The old dogma of the PNC is in need of major revision. Any revision needs to be built from the ground up, as opposed to being an antithesis of the PPP.
The minister can learn from her younger leaders such as those mayors and local government elected officials. For instance , the definition of a job is so loose that a person residing in Brooklyn New York can be working for the ministry of telecommunications via a third party vendor. Moreover , he or she could be from Bangladesh.
The notion of lines through party connection is a quaint conception. What party members need is leadership for the next phase of Guyana’s transformation that includes in immigrants from its neighbors.
