One committed for murder, two to face judge and jury as accessories

One man was committed to face the judge and jury for murder, while two others have to face high court on the charge of accessory after the fact when the preliminary Inquiry concluded into the murder trial in the death of a Bloomfield block maker back in 2017.
The men, Bharrat Ramsaywack, 43, a block maker; his son Prem Ramsaywack, 17, both of Number 55 Village, Corentyne; and their worker, Mohanlall Sewsankar, 20, a labourer; were all charged with murder. They appeared before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga in the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
They are accused of killing Mahendra Ghanie, 21, of Bloomfield, Corentyne, Berbice between October 2 and October 4, 2017.
Bharrat Ramsaywack was committed for murder while Prem Ramsaywack and Sewsankar were committed as accessories after the fact.
Attorney at law Mursalene Bacchus had represented the younger Ramsawack. He argued that his client should not be committed for murder since the only evidence against him was the alleged statement that the police said he made that he assisted in disposing the body. The magistrate accepted Mr. Bacchus’s arguments and committed his client for accessory after the fact.
Ghanie reportedly left his home on October 2, 2017 after his boss, Bharrat Ramsaywack, called him to turn up for work at his place of abode and business, located in the Number 55 Cemetery.
Ghanie had made contact with his mother some time after and had informed her that he had arrived at his work place. He was not seen or heard from again. The relatives after not hearing from Ghanie made a missing person’s report with the police.
The elder Ramsaywack and Sewsankar were subsequently arrested and released. After not getting anywhere, the relatives subsequently launched a search party of their own.
A shallow grave with bones was found about 200 yards aback of the home of the accused in the Number 55 cemetery.
The men had confessed during interrogation that they had struck Ghanie on his head rendering him unconscious. They then dragged his body and dumped it in the shallow grave. It was then set afire.
The men after checking and found that the body was not destroyed, burnt it again in another shallow grave.
They were subsequently rearrested and charged.
