Max Persaud emerged as the overall winner at the inaugural Massy Technologies Microsoft Invitational Golf Tournament which was held on Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Course, East Coast Demerara. Apart from winning the overall title Persaud also captured the Nearest to the pin prize.
It was close contest as Persaud was provided with some keen competition from Dr. Joaan Deo and Mike Mangal; however Persaud managed to prevail with a gross of 81 and a net score of 66. Dr. Deo took the runner up spot with 82 gross and 67 net, while Mangal finished third on 76 gross and 67 net.
Philbert London placed fourth with 94 gross and 68 net. Mangal won the best gross prize.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport, Persaud said he is happy with the victory. “It was tough, there were other players pressing for the win and I had to stay focus,” he added.
“I worked hard to improve my game and my victory is a result of my commitment. The competition was keenly contested and I would like to congratulate the players.”
Dr. Deo stated that she is happy to be back in form and playing consistent golf. “Last weekend I placed second and this week as well so I am delighted with my achievement, nevertheless I will continue to work towards improving my game.”
President of the Lusignan Golf Club Aleem Hussain congratulated the players and thanked the sponsors, while Massy Technologies General Manager Jason Sahai promised to make it an annual event and lauded the Lusignan Golf Club for a well organised tournament. (Zaheer Mohamed)
