Crime scene videographer Constable Stacy McKenzie yesterday testified in the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the gruesome killing of a Pandit and his son whose bodies were found in their Campbellville home with multiple stab wounds.
Thirty-year-old Orlando Douglas is currently on remand for the two murders. The Preliminary Inquiry into the matter is being conducted by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that between July 7 and July 10, last, at Craig Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, Douglas murdered Deonarine Liliah, a Pandit, during the course of a robbery. It was further alleged that during the same period, he murdered Gopaul Liliah, the Pandit’s son.
Yesterday when the matter was called in the courtroom of Magistrate Latchman, the witness testified to visiting the crime scene and taking video footage of the crime scene and the dead men.
The witness then went on to tell the court what she did with the video recordings and where she lodged them.
McKenzie then provided the video recordings to the court which was shown to form part of the Prosecution case.
The Magistrate after listening to the witness’ testimony adjourned the matter until November 19 when the witness is expected to continue her evidence.
Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels who is representing the state is expected to call three remaining witnesses to testify in the PI.
According to reports, Deonarine Liliah, a 61-year-old Pandit and businessman, and his 28-year old-son Gopaul Liliah were found dead last July, in their Lot 25 Craig Street, Campbellville home with multiple stab wounds about their bodies.
The father and son were discovered after a tenant who lives downstairs made a report at the Kitty Police Station after neighbours complained about a stench coming from the upper flat of the home.
Police arrived at the scene and found Deonarine Liliah lying on his back in the living room. He was clad in white long pants and his face was covered with a multi-coloured top.
An autopsy revealed that the victims had been stabbed 66 times.
Police reportedly recovered CCTV footage, which showed a man jumping the western fence and entering the home, through the northern front door.
