Racing fans will flock to the South Dakota Circuit this morning for the opening day of the much hyped about Ignite motor racing meet which will feature drivers and riders competing in the final leg of the 2018 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) along with other events involving speedsters from the region in addition to competitors from the United States and Europe.
Today, time Trials for all classes begin at 10:00hrs followed by official races in the Street Cross Motorcycle, 125cc Motorcycle, Street Tuner, Choke Starlet Cup and Sports Tuner from 13:20hrs.
The feature race today will be the first of three SR3 Radicals Caribbean Cup show downs that will see nine competitors going head to head for top honours, including Guyana’s outstanding duo of Kristian Jeffrey and Calvin Ming.
On the regional scene, the Groups 2-4 action as well as the super stock, and the final two races of SR3 Radicals class (on Sunday) are expected to feature over the two days of action.
The Group 4 battle will be one to watch this weekend with Mark Vieira leading countryman and GP4 AWD defending champion Andrew King (RX-7) and Quinian Lall (Mazda Miata) of Team CAMS third. These drivers will be joined by 2014 & ’15 champion Kristian Jeffrey.
Vieira was the highest points-scorer of the day at South Dakota last year; Mark Maloney won the opening race but failed to finish the second outing when his engine’s kill switch malfunctioned before finishing second in race three.
Leading the much buzzed about Radical Cup is Mark Maloney’s brother, Stuart of Barbados but he will face tough opposition from seasoned Guyanese campaigners Ming and Jeffrey who both missed the entire season campaigning on the North America and European circuits, and Trinidad and Tobago’s teenage sensation, Isa Deen; who sits in second will surely add to the excitement
The circuit is in perfect condition and the weather is favourable, so fans should expect to see some records being broken.
Tickets for the 27-race programme are on sale at the cost of $2500; children $1000 at B.M. Soat Auto Sales, Croal Street office. Meanwhile, VIP tickets are available at Parc Rayne and Rent-a-tent at the cost of $17,500 for Adults, $9000 for kids for tomorrow’s action.
Action starts tomorrow at 08:00hrs.
