Nov 10, 2018 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
In my letter “Dem Boys Seh makes interesting reading at times” (KN, 8th November 2018) some may draw the erroneous conclusion that I am supporting Bharrat Jagdeo. I wish to clarify that I am not a supporter of Bharrat Jagdeo; I am a supporter of the PPP/C.
In my letter I just wanted to clarify that the financing model used for the Berbice River Bridge does not really differ significantly from what is applied elsewhere in the western world.
Saying that, maybe the model used should not have been used, seeing that most of the money was public money. I understand why the model was used; to get the Berbice River Bridge built at all cost. But at the same time, politicians need to be a bit more careful in using public money.
So where do we go from here? Do we abandon Public/Private Partnership? If we do, then it will take centuries for Guyana to develop. I say this because Government will need to collect enough revenue for Capital Projects.
Yours Faithfully
Sean Ori
