Paul Bishop, 32, of 37 Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown and Leonard Farley, 31, of Lot 3 Grove, Public Road, East Bank Demerara were yesterday released on bail after Police Prosecution still lacked statements after weeks of them being charged.
The first of the duo was Paul Bishop who first appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on October 12, last. Bishop pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on October 9, 2018 at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, he had in his possession a .32 revolver when he was not a licensed firearm holder.
In Bishop’s case the police indicated that during a raid in the defendant’s area, police ranks noticed him acting in a suspicious manner which probed them to conduct a search on his person where they found the unlicensed firearm in a black plastic bag.
Bishop had allegedly said: ‘Sir I found the gun when I was digging sand in front my gate.’
Meanwhile Farley, who appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on October 4, last, also pleaded not guilty to his charge which alleged that on September, 29, at the Black and White Bridge, Tucville, East La Penitence, while armed with a knife, he robbed Wayne Bratt of four gold chains, eight gold rings, and one gold band.
On the day in question, the victim was proceeding home when he was confronted by Farley, who relieved him of the articles mentioned in the charge.
It was also highlighted that in previous hearings Police Prosecution was unable to present the files in order for the matter to be heard.
However, yesterday the prosecution had the file but failed to produce the statements in relation to the matters. As a result, Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore granted bail to the men in the sum of $150,000 each with the order that they make their next court appearance on November 14, 2018.
