Odinga Greene, called ‘Dingo’, who was freed twice on two murder charges was yesterday back before a City Magistrate, this time to face a rape charge.
Greene, 41, of 17 Station Street, Kitty, is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl.
A teary-eyed Greene was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between November 1, and November 30, 2016, he engaged in sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16.
Facts presented by the Court Prosecutor stated that on the day in question, the teen was home alone when Greene forced his way into her room and raped her.
The Prosecutor made serious objections to bail being granted to Greene citing the serious nature and prevalence of the offence.
The Prosecutor also cited the penalty the offence attracts and the fact that the victim was 13 when the incident occurred.
The court heard that if Greene is granted bail there is a likelihood that he will tamper with the victim.
The Magistrate after listening to the Prosecutor facts remanded Greene to prison.
He was instructed to make his next court appearance on November 21 for report.
Greene, on exiting the prisoner’s chute shouted, “With all the money I spend on the girl this is how y’all gone repay me.”
According to information, Greene was freed twice of two separate murders.
He was on trial for the murder of 28-year-old Nazalene Mohamed, of Lot 1 East Ruimveldt Front Road which occurred between February 2 and February 12, 2007. He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes.
Greene had also been convicted of the murder of Sandra Harvey on April 26, 2004, and was sentenced to death by Justice Dawn Gregory.
On appeal, a retrial was ordered by the Guyana Court of Appeal and this was done before Justice Jaynarayan Singh who upheld no case submissions and freed Greene on May 12, 2005.
Three years later, Greene was before the Courts again, this time charged with Mohamed’s murder.
In both cases, Greene admitted taking the women to Linden where they were both found bound and strangled. He gave statements in which he claimed in both cases that the women were left with “a man”. Harvey was murdered between December 9 and December 12, 1999.
Greene was subsequently found with her jewellery. His defence was that she had given it to him.
