Calvin Belgrave, a labourer of Bent Street, Georgetown, was yesterday charged for robbing Dellon Anderson and was remanded to prison
It was alleged that Belgrave, on November 2, last, at Brickdam and Cornhill Street being in the company of others armed with an offensive weapon that is to say a weapon, he robbed Anderson of one Samsung cell phone valued at $36, 000 and $2,000 cash.
Belgrave pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to him by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Facts of the charge indicated that Anderson and Belgrave are known to each other. Anderson would have seen Belgrave on different occasions around the said area.
On the day in question Anderson was on Cornhill Street outside Demico House, where he saw Belgrave with three other men. Belgrave approached Anderson then pulled out a knife. The other men in the company surrounded Anderson and relieved him of the items.
A report was made to the police and the defendant was arrested in front of the Parliament building after being pointed out by Anderson.
Police Prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness and nature of the offences. which resulted in bail being refused.
Anderson was remanded to prison until November 19.
