Finance Minister tours KSM Investments Inc.

Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan, continued his series of visits to local enterprises, on October 4, to KSM Investments Inc., at Good Hope on the East Coast Demerara.
The visits are part of efforts to understand the challenges faced and assist local manufacturers, whether in the short, medium or long term.
In an invited comment after the site visit, the minister described his meeting with the company’s management as “engaging”. He noted that several issues raised will be addressed to bring some relief to the manufacturers. He said the company, operating since 2015, offers, “a well put together product, maybe not as very well known, and I have asked the manufacturers to do a bit more to promote”.
At the government’s level, Minister Jordan added that he will ask his colleagues to take a closer look at the possibility of using the company’s products in government buildings.
“It may be a bit more expensive but it is a far superior product… for safety and other reasons, we have to ensure that we use top quality materials.”
He stated that despite some of the challenges faced, the company must be encouraged to stay the course as the government will play its part.
Chief Executive Officer of KSM Investments Inc., Mahadeo Panchu, said that Minister Jordan’s position as a senior administration official was critical since he helps to shape policy referring to taxation on local materials, among others.
He explained that his company has set the bar high. “We are manufacturing products that exceed international quality, manufactured in Guyana by Guyanese and we are very proud of that!”
According to Panchu, KSM is “here to stay and ready to work with government to build this country of ours.”
The visit is part of a series of visits being conducted by the Finance Minister to local manufacturers to get a first-hand look at their operations and have discussions with their management teams.
