Men get abused by women with seeming impunity

Dear Editor,
I would like to highlight a very serious situation that is prevalent in Guyana – the abuse of Guyanese men by Guyanese women.
When many men report they are being abused or threatened with violence, many times the police at our police stations openly mock the males who make those reports. Often, the police give assurance that the complaints will be investigated but no action is taken.
About two weeks ago a male complained to the police at the Wismar police station about abuse at his premises and in public; he was even threatened with violence. The woman was never contacted by the police.
When the male reported to the police at Wismar station that he is still being molested, ranks at the station mocked the male that complained.
The abusive woman was found guilty of wounding some time ago. She also boasts she has connections with the police.
The abused male will be seeking intervention from the Commander at Linden and it will be interesting to see what develops from the matter.
One of the reasons for the high incidence of male abuse of women is due to men not getting fair treatment when they make reports at our police stations.
I sincerely hope our Commissioner of Police will tackle the serious problem of women abuse of men.
