The police are looking for a man, Stanley Paul, for questioning in relation to a fuel scam.
Paul is wanted for the unlawful distribution of fuel marker.
The police said that the alleged offence was committed on the Guyana Energy Agency in April 2018.
“Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Stanley Paul is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 226-2870, 229-2655, 229-2289, 227-1149, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station. All information will be treated with the strictest confidence,” the police said.
Paul is said to be of mixed race, and resides at 256 Dove Square, South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown.
GEA has been battling theft of fuel markers over time with reports from time to time that various persons have been found in possession. The marker is critical to determine that taxes were paid on the fuel. The absence of the marker obviously would mean that nothing was paid.
The taxes on fuel annually amount to billions of dollars.
However, it is estimated that the markers stolen from GEA have caused losses to the state to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars – the fuel is coming especially from smuggling.
