Sunday night’s incident between the Junior Minister in the Ministry of Natural Resources Simona Broomes, her driver and two security guards at a Providence Restaurant, saw the Minister making claims that one of the guards cocked a gun and pointed it at her.
This has since had adverse effects on the security guards.
Robert Goodluck, the security guard who the Minister claimed cocked and pointed a gun at her, has found the Minister’s accusations disturbing. He says the whole incident has had a negative effect on him so far.
After the incident was highly publicized, and accusations were made against him, persons had concluded that he was guilty. He was also detained for sixteen hours.
Later, video footage of what really transpired has come to light. But by then, the damage was already done.
Goodluck said the whole scenario was very unfortunate. He said that he has always been very respectful in executing his job.
On the day in question, Goodluck said that a heavily tinted black SUV pulled up to a “no parking” area, that was stated with signs.
The vehicle stopped and the driver disembarked. He then removed the “no parking” sign and returned to the vehicle. I shouted out to him that he could not do that because that was a “no parking” area. At the same time, I (Goodluck) walked up to the vehicle and replaced the sign.
“This caused the vehicle that was just about to move off to come to a halt again. The driver exited the vehicle once again and removed the sign once again and was asking me, if I knew who he was.
“I was telling him that he could park where the security can see his vehicle. There was a back and forth between us after which a woman exited the rear left door of a Black SUV, and proceeded to throw two “no parking” signs to the ground.
I realized that things were escalating; and moved aside. I followed them to the restaurant door, while the driver parked the vehicle.
The woman called the police who came and took me and my colleague to the station and locked us up, until the next day around 13:00hrs.
Goodluck said he learnt that the woman was Minister Broomes. He was told by his superiors that, the woman and her driver never said anything that would have suggested that she was a Government official.
