(Kaieteur News) – A suspected bandit lost one of his teeth during the early hours of Monday after his intended victim hauled him off his motorcycle during an attempted robbery at Fourth Bridge, Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The victim told Kaieteur News that he was attacked by three young men travelling on motorcycles around 02:50 hrs. He was just a few metres from his home when the men pounced on him, but he managed to fight them off.
Security camera footage from the area showed the motorcycle bandits circling the neighborhood before approaching their intended victim. The pillion rider on one of the motorcycles jumped off and launched an attack on the man.
Although the cameras did not capture much of the initial confrontation, the pillion rider was seen moments later sprinting back towards the motorcycle as the rider sped away. A third bandit, who was riding alone on another motorcycle, followed behind them.
The victim was also seen running after the fleeing men.
However, a sandbank along the roadside proved to be an obstacle for the lone bandit attempting to escape. The motorcycle appeared to lose balance, causing both the rider and the bike to fall.
The victim quickly caught up with him and hauled him off the motorcycle as he attempted to get back on his feet. His accomplices, meanwhile, managed to escape.
The victim was then seen pinning the bandit behind a parked car at the side of the road.
Although the security cameras did not capture what transpired behind the vehicle, dogs in a nearby yard began barking as sounds of repeated blows rang out. Someone could be heard grunting in pain, while another person was heard cursing with each blow.
The confrontation lasted approximately a minute before the victim emerged from behind the vehicle, dragging the bandit by his collar along the roadway and continuing to curse as the two disappeared into the darkness.
The victim subsequently told Kaieteur News that after pinning the bandit to the ground, he unleashed a barrage of cuffs and punches to the man’s head and face.
“I drag he till to the police station,” the victim told this newspaper.
The suspect was arrested, and it was reportedly after his arrest that he discovered he had lost a tooth. The tooth was later found on the ground at the location where he was allegedly beaten.
Kaieteur News asked the victim whether he sustained any injuries during the confrontation or whether the bandits had managed to relieve him of any valuables.
“No, dem ain’t get tru with nothing,” he said, adding that the only injury he sustained was a swollen hand from “cuffing out the bandit teeth”.
Kaieteur News understands that the police have since managed to capture the other two suspected bandits.
